2008 SLE Conference Details
WHAT: A truly remarkable educational and leadership development experience that opens doorways to significant understanding of government, civics, responsibility, and community. This wildly successful educational experience has been recognized nine times by the State Legislature. The conference is acclaimed by students, teachers, and parents as the best educational activity available for teaching students about California government, the legislative process, civics and community spirit. WHO: Any California high school student in the eleventh or twelfth grade during the 2007-08 school year is eligible to apply. One student from each Senatorial District in California will be selected from applications submitted.
WHEN: May 20-23, 2008. Opening session on Tuesday begins at 10:00 a.m. Conference adjourns at 5:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
WHERE: Sacramento, California. Sessions will be held at: Capitol Plaza Ballrooms 1025 Ninth Street Sacramento, CA 95814 with some activities taking place at the State Capitol Building.
Participants will be housed four students to a room.
SUPERVISON: In addition to four, full-time conference staff persons leading and managing conference sessions, one male and one female adult chaperone will provide supervision at the hotel. Both chaperones will be teachers with high school experience who are fully credentialed by the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
